The state senate of Massachusetts recently approved a $1.3 billion borrowing bill that would be dedicated to transportation improvements. While the bill has not yet become law, a committee is currently dividing up the bill for various projects around the state.

Boston and Dorchester officials are pushing hard for the intersection at Morton Street and Gallivan Boulevard – an area that is mired in traffic problems. To go along with numerous accidents, pedestrians also have to be extremely careful when crossing in that area.

Morton-Gallivan intersection is infamous around the area, and is made difficult by the residential homes on one side and the commercial properties on the other. The only traffic lights at the intersection are located at a cumbersome strip in the middle of it.

As of now, some $750,000 have been earmarked for the intersection, all of which will go towards better signals there.

In addition to this intersection, money has also been set aside for projects on Columbia Road, the stretch of I-93 that cuts through Dorchester (for sound barriers), Kosciuszko Circle, Gallivan Boulevard, Adams Street and Granite Avenue.
